The Hepton Singers return to St. Thomas’ Church, Heptonstall, for a concert of classic a cappella motets counterbalanced by twentieth- and twenty-first century music in celebration of Nature.
The programme includes some of the most exquisitely crafted works of the Spanish musical Renaissance by Victoria and Guerreo, complemented by the lush choral architecture of Bruckner. By way of further contrast, the programme also includes highly original and engaging motets by the contemporary English composer Howard Skempton.
Music in praise of Nature takes many forms, but the choir will embark on a journey from dawn to dusk, celebrating the flight of birds, the sowing of seeds, and the sustaining power of the earth through the music of James MacMillan, Kerry Andrew, the American Frank Ticheli and others.
