This winter’s Hepton Singers concert will be a celebration of choral music from Palestrina through to the rising star of British music, Anna Lapwood. At its centre, the concert will include three beautiful but highly contrasting settings of the same classic text, O magnum mysterium, O great mystery, by the sixteenth-century Spanish composer Tomás Luis de Victoria, the twentieth-century French composer Francis Poulenc, and the doyen of American choral music Morten Lauridsen. Alongside works by the Master of the King’s Music Judith Weir, and the Norwegian-born Ola Gjeilo, Hepton Singers will also be performing music by the great William Byrd in commemoration of his death 400 years ago in 1623.
